Is Kelvin Gay in The Righteous Gemstones?
Forget traditional vows. The Righteous Gemstones, HBO’s sharp, satirical comedy about evangelical megachurch shenanigans, wrapped its four-season run in 2025 with a finale that left fans both cheering and (let’s be honest) a little teary-eyed. Eli is a demanding, and at times, harsh parent, who controls various aspects of his children’s lives.
Corey’s behavior took an even darker turn after Jana expressed her upset over being treated poorly and declared she wanted a divorce.

While he played a game of cornhole with Gemstone siblings Jesse (Danny McBride), Judy (Edi Patterson), and Kelvin, he confessed that he and dad Cobb had kidnapped, hurt, and even killed different men Lori had been in relationships with as part of a club they referred to as the “Ex Boyfriends Club.” The confession was a result of Kelvin having found his dad’s golden bible among Corey’s belongings after a vision of his dead mom, Aimee Leigh (Jennifer Nettles), guided him there.
Ultimately, after he confessed to his crimes, Corey grabbed a gun from his room and shot Judy, Kelvin, and Jesse, while the rest of the group was on a boat in the water, unable to hear the commotion on shore, which Corey drowned out with loud music.
And that has to have some effects on Kelvin not yet coming to terms with his own sexuality. Until recently, Keefe had been a hedonist, so he is very much aware of the sexual tension between them.
“It’s perfect,” Cavalero says, ending the series on such a joyous occasion. And it’s a promising outcome considering how close the pair were to never reaching their romantic potential.
“It seems like they’re gonna be broken up. He might not have ever kissed anyone in his life. In various interviews, DeVine has described his character as a man-child.
All of them are financially dependent on him.
Is Kelvin Gay?
Throughout the series, there are heavy implications that the writers have plans to take the character toward that direction in the future. So I think it’ll be a very elementary level love,” he adds regarding the pair’s potential dynamic following this milestone.
Fret not about potential shenanigans because Cavalero believes Keefe could teach Kelvin a thing or two.
In a major jump from that dark tone, the next scene brought viewers to Kelvin and Keefe’s nuptials officiated by Eli Gemstone (John Goodman).

Since the show’s premiere back in 2019, Kelvin and Keefe’s relationship has been a fan favorite — a tender, complicated, and deeply funny reflection of what it means to navigate queerness in a conservative, church-drenched world.
After three long seasons of emotional ping-pong (and one unforgettable first kiss that had us all clapping), the two finally embraced their love and walked boldly into their happily ever after.
