In an interview with British Vogue in December 2024, Bailey shared a bit more about his thoughts on starting a family, and was asked about having children.

“Yes, it’s such a privilege for a man, but I can’t bring children into my lifestyle now,” he replied, referring to his busy career.

“I’m reading books on adoption. Of course, I thought that in order to be happy, I needed to be straight...I reached a point where I thought, ‘F*** this.’ I’d much prefer to hold my boyfriend’s hand in public or be able to put my own face picture on Tinder and not be so concerned about that than getting a part.”

That said, Bailey does tend to keep his private life private.

Season two of the hit Netflix series showed him and Simone Ashley falling in a passionate love that launched a thousand GIFs across social media. “So, yeah, of course I thought that. In December 2023, he told the Evening Standard that he was dating a “lovely man” without naming names.

“It’s not secret, but it’s private,” he explained.

I might co-parent with a woman, but I’m thinking it will be with a man.”

The Wicked actor’s peek into his dating life ended there, though, as he later shut down discussion about his relationship status, telling the outlet that he was “not discussing that.”

Jonathan was, however, open about his experience as part of the LGBTQ+ community, including the difficulty he had when trying to come out to a group of friends in grade school.
