Now, Jacob Elordi has opened up about the conversation and how he's approached Nate's sexuality in his performance in the series.

In an interview with Variety, Jacob revealed that he doesn't approach Nate's personal storyline "in terms of sexuality."

"I always approach it in terms of family.

Moreover, he threatens Maddy when she suggests that he is confused about his sexuality. He then explains the effect the discovery had on him as a child, resulting in a recurring nightmare where Cal was “fucking [him] the way that he was fucking them.”

Now that he's finally starting to confront everything with his father, perhaps Euphoria season 3 will see Nate confront his own complex, inner feelings and repressed sexuality.

On the other hand, Nate has never indulged in any sexual interactions with men, which hints that he is perhaps not gay.

Although Nate is yet to confront his sexuality, it doesn’t seem like he has to force himself through his romantic and sexual interactions with women. When asked about the struggle Jacobs has with his sexuality, Elordi responded that it's not as simple as his character being gay or straight.

Nonetheless, the provocative scenes from Lexi’s play aimed at Nate seem to have reinvigorated the debate about his sexuality. Nate also experiences his father, Cal Jacobs, having a meltdown and leaving their family house.

The penultimate episode of season 2 sees Lexi’s play reach its climax with a stellar dance number.

In the first season, he is in an on-and-off relationship with Maddy. During an interview with Esquire, Elordi said, "It's so enjoyable, playing Nate is so much fun. The semi-autobiographical play is based on Lexi and her peers’ lives. In the second season, Nate begins hooking up with Cassie. Is he this, is he that?' It’s deeper than that."

Over the past two seasons of Euphoria, there's been a lot of speculation amongst viewers and in-show characters alike about Nate Jacobs' sexuality.

Nate has mainly had (very toxic) relationships with women – he's dated both Maddy and Cassie, and has pursued Jules through a fake identity on a dating app – but there's been a few instances where it appears as though he's repressing his sexuality.

The big turning point for Nate in season 2 appeared to come during Lexi's play when Ethan's homoerotic dance number, clearly based on Nate and the hypermasculine jocks, caused him to storm out of the auditorium.

The incident damaged his psyche and triggered a search for sexual identity within Nate.

His father’s desire to make Nate a star footballer could contradict Nate’s feelings about his sexual identity leading to his anger issues. If you are wondering whether Nate in ‘Euphoria’ is gay, here’s everything you need to know! However, in the first season finale, the two decide to end things between them for good.

Any conversation that hints at his potential homosexuality is triggering for Nate and often causes him to lash out.

Therefore, although signs are present, Nate himself hasn’t explored his sexuality to the extent that we can say he is gay. This is just a kid who needs a dad, but everything his dad is being is terrifying, so he wants to be the opposite of that."

Addressing Nate's sexuality further in another interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Jacob added: "[His father, Cal] is supposed to be a role model and a leader and a lover and your protector, and you’ve seen them doing these things and you see the wear and tear inside of a family.

The performance deeply hurts Nate as he storms out of the auditorium, leading fans to believe that Nate’s reactions stem from his closeted homosexuality. Elordi has himself refrained from giving a definitive answer about his character’s sexuality. He is attracted to Maddy, Cassie, and Jules, which confirms that he is interested in women. The dance number features some provocative steps that hint Nate is gay.

Yeah, it's demanding and intense, that's what keeps me interested in this job, because I'll never be like that in my real life." He added, "So, if I can play those emotions and that kind of person and completely shed myself, that's a treat."

Ultimately, Jacobs is a complicated character, and his sexuality remains complicated, too, which is completely normal, especially in one's formative years.
